Why Do We Judge Without Enough Information?

The world we live in today is such a judgmental one. Every time someone says something, thinks something, or has a different opinion about something we always have to have a quick opinion about it, often without enough information to do so. Why?

Why do we Judge Others & Often Very Quickly, Without Enough Information?

We Judge others so quickly simply because it is in our nature. It is human nature to judge others, we can't help ourselves. A good example of judgement can be found in Laurie Halse Anderson's teen novel: Speak. This judgement is found between the main character, Melinda and her ex best friend, Rachel. It is what the whole plot is based around. Before high school begins, Melinda, Rachel, and their friends go to a party. At this party Melinda calls the police because she is sexually assulted by a senior boy who goes to her high school. Melinda's friends don't know about the rape and assume that Melinda called the cops to get them into trouble for underaged drinking. Due to this rash assumption nobody talks to Melinda all school year, she is only known as the kid who ruined the party by called the cops.

Judgement can lead to racism, steriotype, and/or discrimination because one person can take one experience with another person of a different race, ethnicity, gender or sexuality and assume that every single person of that group will act the same. I think it's possible not to judge others in a bad way but I don't thinks it's possible not to judge others at all. Even if you're conciously trying not to judge people, subconciously you still do. When you see somebody you judge their clothes, their body, the way they move. When you hear them you judge their voice, their accent, they words they use. These are not necessarily bad judgements but they are judgements none the less.
